The Challenge
The WDACS provides life sustaining services to people throughout the County of Los Angeles – covering key areas such as nutrition, supportive services, crisis intervention, transportation, human relations, education, training and employment.
The WDACS application and data portfolio is comprised of commercially hosted applications, internally developed applications, departmental warehouse and County-wide applications. The Research and Statistics Division is engaged in managing he data flow and analytics which originate from these sources and data from non-County sources, for WDACS use.
The Research and Statistics Division is correlating and testing for validity of data coming from database systems used by WDACS, county systems, and non-county sources. WDACS needed development of extensions upon existing applications and analytics data stores to obtain and manage data.
The Solution
WATI captured data requirements for the applicable source systems and analytics, in coordination with Research and Statistics Analysts of WDACS. WATI built requisite database objects to support the specified data model and built web extensions using a PHP development framework and integrating it with existing security layers within the WDACS framework.
WATI’s solution included
- Development of several interactive forms utilizing AJAX with PHP
- Development of REST web services that produce and consume data in JSON format.
- Development of Common interface control framework for utilizing throughout the application
- Ensuring precise integration and event handling for mobile development
WATI trained WDACS staff on changes and extensions to various modules while providing supporting procedures.
Results
WATI’s solution provided needed extensions to existing applications and analytics data that drastically improved the analytics capabilities for WDACS’ Research and Statistics Division.
