UX Designer with 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA

Required Skills:
  • Minimum five (5) years of Principal User Experience (UX) skillsets in human-user centered design principals and methodologies for web, mobile, and web applications which leverage emergent technologies, such as HTML 5 (Flexbox and CSS Grid), CSS3 (SASS), JavaScript, JQuery, Bootstrap, and responsive web layouts.
  • Minimum five (5) years of Principal UX skillsets designing for patterns, design systems, user flows, wireframes, and prototyping.
  • Excellent skills using Figma, Adobe XD, and Balsamiq tools.
  • Strong experience in process and design improvements, planning and project scheduling, and working in software development lifecycles.
  • Strong experience designing for web accessibility standards and requirements, including Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA and subsequent versions.
  • Provides resource augmentation to UX Design staff. Works with the CalPERS UX and Information Design Unit and adheres to the established CalPERS UX Design methodology and processes.
  • Web framework and modules that are accessed by our internal stakeholders, members, and the public using myCalPERS Member Self Service (MSS), CalPERS Internet and Intranet, and other web-based applications supported by the UX Team.
  • Provides resource augmentation to UX Design staff. Works with the CalPERS UX and Information Design Unit and adheres to the established CalPERS UX Design methodology and processes.
  • Creates design documentation including user-centered flow diagrams, wireframes, prototypes, content documents and other user-centered analysis work products (User Scenarios, Personas, Customer Journeys, and Task Profiles).
  • Conducts research and creates design documentation for a collection of reusable components/patterns, guided by clear standards, that can be assembled to build any number of applications, also known as a Design System.
  • Designs interactions and interfaces from a consumer-oriented perspective to meet standard architecture and best practices for optimized UX. Ensures that designs conform to established CalPERS patterns for UX design.
  • Researches, identifies, prioritizes, tests, and improves UX internal processes including UX documentation to streamline UX team productivity and job satisfaction.
  • Uses customer insights, feedback, quantitative and qualitative research, and UX best practices to take a customer-centric approach in helping CalPERS make strategic decisions.
  • Conducts user research using various techniques to evaluate usability, such as focus groups, interviews, surveys, card sorting, and usability testing.
  • Creates usability test plans, participant criteria/screeners, moderator scripts, and other usability test materials, as needed.
  • Develops prototypes for usability testing, as needed.
  • Participates in project working sessions and Joint Application Requirements/Design (JAR/D) sessions. Provides UX design requirements and provides input for the development of Use Case documentation.
  • Collaborates with a project team consisting of designers, business analysts, solution architects, developers, testers, program staff, and others to prepare project deliverables, documentation, schedules, and other materials.
  • Ensures that interface designs follow Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA conformance level and its success criteria, and subsequent versions for accessibility, inclusive, and CalPERS Web Accessibility Policy.
  • Provides knowledge transfer to UX team members in the form of documentation, mentoring, and training.
  • Provides technical project management assistance, as needed.
  • Must have Principal UX Designer knowledge and experience in UX industry skills such as wireframing, prototyping, information strategy, interaction design, usability research, and usability testing.
  • Excellent experience in coding HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery, and Bootstrap framework for mobile and web projects.
  • Excellent communication skills both writing and oral.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the contract manager.

Prepares weekly status reports including weekly timesheets, due COB Friday.
